HomeAbout Our Club
The Shelter Bay Yacht Club (SBYC) was formed in 1977 and is home ported in the picturesque and very friendly community of Shelter Bay on Fidalgo Island in Washington. Shelter Bay is a boating-oriented community with its own marina and water access to the Salish Sea and beyond via the Swinomish Channel. Our yacht club shares the Shelter Bay clubhouse and other facilities with the Shelter Bay Community, home to many of our members. We are a relatively small club with a little over two hundred fifty members. It’s the kind of club where it doesn’t take a new member long to get to know most of the active members. Our members have quite a range of boating experience and our club activities help share that wealth of knowledge.

September through March membership meetings are combined with dinners and other social events held at the Clubhouse. The events range from fully catered meals to very casual potluck dinners. Informal potluck barbecues are held at the picnic area near the Clubhouse each month during the summer. Our cruising season runs from April to September with cruises ranging from day cruises to extended cruises to several ports lasting a week or more.

Why are the dues significantly lower than other yacht clubs?
Why are the dues significantly lower than other yacht clubs?

The Shelter Bay Yacht Club has intentionally kept the costs of membership affordable. Unlike some clubs, we do not have expensive facilities to maintain nor do we have paid staff. We are a hands on club and members are expected to volunteer their time and resources to make the club the vibrant organization that it is. During your first year of membership, you will be assigned to volunteer to help with one event. You will be given a list of three volunteer opportunities to choose from. In addition, be sure to check out the Volunteer Opportunities section on the club website. We have all discovered that part of the fun of being a member is working with other members for the success of our club.
